Website Conversion Debate: Slipperyness VS Quality
Andrew Hansen has started a discussion over at his blog regarding a discussion he had with Rob Somerville from the 30Day Challenge. Basically the discussion was related to the question if one, as an affiliate for instance, should go for slippy content (content which sole purpose is to get the visitor to click through to a salespage or click on an ad for instance) or quality content (building a relationship, putting up great content for reader etc) and which of the methods would make more money.
After my first answer to his post where I wrote something by the lines “it depends…blah blah“, he replied;
“Doesn’t a relationship increase conversion rates?”
I’d say; it depends and my answer turned out to be pretty long. I wrote it “on-the-fly” without thinking things through twice and without much second thoughs or anything….
You can read my complete answer and follow the rest of the debate here. (Opens in a new window:External Link)
(UPDATE: Rob posted a reply with some clearing of possible misunderstandings).
