Website Conversion Debate: Slipperyness VS Quality

Andrew Hansen has started a discussion over at his blog regarding a discussion he had with Rob Somerville from the 30Day Challenge. Basically the discussion was related to the question if one, as an affiliate for instance, should go for slippy content (content which sole purpose is to get the visitor to click through to a salespage or click on an ad for instance) or quality content (building a relationship, putting up great content for reader etc) and which of the methods would make more money.

After my first answer to his post where I wrote something by the lines “it depends…blah blah“, he replied;

“Doesn’t a relationship increase conversion rates?”

I’d say; it depends and my answer turned out to be pretty long. I wrote it “on-the-fly” without thinking things through twice and without much second thoughs or anything….

You can read my complete answer and follow the rest of the debate here. (Opens in a new window:External Link)

(UPDATE: Rob posted a reply with some clearing of possible misunderstandings).

Web Site Traffic - How To Analyze your web Site Traffic

Web Site Traffic Analyzing

I found this article by Serge Daudelin and thought it might be worth sharing. I was planning to write an article on this topic anyways and since what Serge writes in this article actually makes sense, I might as well just re-print his article.

Serge talks about statistic counters in his article and I personally use and prefer statcounter.com - it’s a good free stat counter that gives a lot of detailed statistics.

Now, let’s head over to the article:

“Getting traffic to your web site without analyzing it, is like being blindfolded while driving a car. So although hit counters are helpful to a certain point, you need more to tell where your website is heading.

Find if specific keywords are generating a specific type of visitor to your web site. Internet marketing all about generating as much traffic as possible and converting this traffic into sign ups and sales.

That’s why analyzing your web site traffic is so important.”

I think it is good and rather precise reading. To read the full story and see more stuff by Serge - Click Here. (NOTE: It will open in a new window since it is an external link!)

Backlinks - What Are They?

When hearing about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) a term that will come up quite often is “Backlink“. For us who have been doing web design, niche marketing and sEO for a while this is a term we way too often take for granted that everybody “knows.” However, this is not the case and I often see people misunderstand this term or not understanding it at all. Basically a backlink is not more than a link to your site from another site.

A link back to your site = Backlink! :)

A Backlink is also called an “incoming link”(Also See; Reciprocal Link). The number and - more important - the quality of backlinks represent one of the most important factors in determining a site’s “PageRank”. The value of any backlink is determined partly by the PageRank of the linking site, which, again, is determined partly by the quality of its backlinks, and so on.

Getting quality links back to your site is often one of the hardest tasks in SEO and website owners (and especially Black Hatters) often try to “cheat” by making blog farms/link farms and similar systems to outrank competitors. These methods, while they may have great positive impact on your rankings short-term, may be catastrophic to your rankings if, for instance, Google finds out about the linking-scheme.

There are of course both black hat, white hat and even grey hat methods to build backlinks and they all have some benefits - it is up to you to decide which methods you use and I would say that a combination of them are often best.

Just remeber to step carefully when using the more “illegal” methods and do not play the game if you cannot take the punishment.

Here are some guidelines to go by…:

*Do NOT just throw out garbage spam content to get backlinks from article directories, blogs (your own or others) etc.
*Do NOT join linkfarms which sole purpose is to provide backlinks without quality.

…BASICALLY: Always provide quality content and do not make “Scraper Sites” with junk content.

If you are familiar with Search Engine Trust (SET) you know how ugly it may turn out. SET was a network of blogs and members could submit articles to these blogs. Their network consisted of hundreds of blogs and the content on these sites were mostly junk made by “spammers”. Google joined their network (or so it seems), tracked down their sites and de-indexed them. What was a super effective backlink netowrk shooting the members sites high up on the search engine rankings had, more or less, their complete network de-indexed over night.

The value of the network was crushed to pieces in one giant strike basically.

There are still networks and ways to gain backlinks but I would recommend the white hat ones where you actually have to contribute with something useful in order to get a link back to your site. This may be writing an article, posting useful comments etc…

PortalFeeder, TrafficKahuna and probably FirePow are great networks to join if you have the money.

Oh - YES!! Firepow Blog Software In Coming!

FirePow Image

I’ve been following Andrew Hansens Work for a while now. For instance this blog that you now are reading was made with his superior Niche Empire Generator (NEG) software. However, Next month (may 2008 - After a few weeks delay) a much awaited launch of his sparkling new Firepow Blogging Software will take place

Oh…BOY!! I am really looking forward to it.

I’ve been following the prelaunch of this software for quite a while now and I have to admit that it is going to be killer stuff. This guy really know what he is doing when it comes to niche marketing and blogging!

Of course many people are contemplating, as they do with many products, whether or not this will be the boost they need to unlock the door to online business success. This article will look at what about this product is pure hype, and what might be an actual benefit, in order that you might form an educated opinion about this program.

I might play devils advocate and start with the negative.

Firstly let it be clearly known that no product, software, ebook or membership, is going to make you money - YOU have to do the work YOURSELF - sales letters love to give the impression that a product will do something FOR you but unless you’re willing to MAKE IT happen yourself - nothing will help you.

I expect Firepow to fit this category. Particularly because it’s a software that automates certain tasks, I expect it convey the feeling of doing things for you. So don’t fall for it - whatever it says, remember that YOU will have work to do and if you’re not ready to do that then this product won’t help you.

Phew, now that that’s out of my system, we can continue.

What does seem good about Firepow so far is that it combines the functions of various pieces of software into one ‘machine’ so to speak - which if only for the sake of nothing else but convenience, makes it a good thing. Less programs on my computer, less to think about, and hopefully less to do.

The things it combines are the tasks of (as the sales letter indicates) creating, marketing and managing your niche blog sites.

It does these things with the use of wordpress plugins, and features inside a central software, from where you can view or edit any of your blog sites - another big convenience factor.

The plugins are both a list compiled from existing plugins on the internet and those created specially by Andrew himself.

It’s these fresh meat plugins that seem to be the big selling point as promises have been made of effects like stealing viral traffic, multiplying your content automatically, and giving the site owner the capacity to get in touch with other site owners for extra leverage.

Supposedly it does everything from create your site (content too) to get you traffic and beyond - a hard ask for any program and I guess we’ll have to wait to see whether it delivers.

Most of us know that niche blogging works but just haven’t connected the dots fully yet. If that’s you - Firepow might be worth a look.

I know I am sold for sure!

SEO, Blogging, Webtraffic, Internet Marketing

Welcome to MartinsEzine.com. Unfortunately our previous webhost Trexhost.com went bankrupt and closed their servers without prior notice. Who care about making back-ups, right? Ok. Lesson Learned.

I am currently working on re-building and soon a lot of great content will be in place. Read about SEO, Blogging, Webtraffic ideas and internet marketing. I hope to have the website back on track - atleast for a start - within a few weeks.
